In 2013, CRAiLAR acquired a Belgian fiber processing company, where we have since produced some of the finest fiber-quality flax we’ve ever seen. This opportunity moves CRAiLAR to the heart of the most prolific flax-farming region in the world and gives us access to generations of intellectual capital and fiber processing experience. Production at the facility commenced in January 2014.
The Future - At CRAiLAR, we continuously look for opportunities to innovate our own processes and product offerings, minimize our environmental impacts, and helping partner brands, yarn spinners, knitting mills, weaving mills, and consumers do the same. We are preparing to introduce CRAiLAR Hemp into our commerical product assortment. Hemp, like flax, is a member of the bast family and has long been used for industrial cordage. Incredibly, hemp yealds more fiber per acre than flax, using yet less water and chemical inputs. Through the same process that produces CRAiLAR Flax, we are unlocking hemp’s versatility. We believe this strong, bountiful, and environmentally friendly fiber has far-reaching uses, from home goods to work wear to industrial applications.
